The 8th EPRI conference on Information and Communication Technologies

The 8th European Conference of Members of Parliaments on Information and Communication Technologies was hosted by the President of the Czech Senate, Mr. Premysl Sbotka, in the Czech Senate in Prague, March  15-16, 2006. Theme of the 8th Conference was “At the cross point of eGovernment & eDemocracy: How ICT in the parliamentarian environment is setting standards in participation and usage”.

The 8th EPRI conference aimed to contribute to develop joint visions related to the innovative use of ICT in public administrations and politics. Visions need to be developed about the future development and innovative deployment of information & communication technologies in a broader societal and administrative context. Since such technology-related visions cannot be developed unilaterally, but need the support across borders and sectors (parliaments and industry) the conference offered a platform for a joint development of visions and mutual exchange of best practice. Besides this, the conference strengthens the cross-national networking among parliamentarians.

The whole conference was set up as a sequence of three different stages. First the current state-of-the-art, secondly a view to the future and in the third part the introduction of leading examples in the field of eGovernment & eDemocracy.  This archway, starting from the state-of-the-art towards leading examples was reflected by the presentations held. In the end of the day a round table discussion  multiplexed all information gathered during the day and highlighted them in terms of how ICT in the parliamentary world is setting standards in participation and usage in the field of eGovernment &eDemocracy.

The 8th EPRI conference concentrated on visions, recent experiences and their visible consequences on the implementation of new ICT standards.
